Motivational Interviewing (1-Day Workshop) for Employment Specialists
Trainer:
Kelly Burda - Program Consultant & Trainer

Location: ZOOM

,

1-Day Workshop

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an intervention that can address some of the challenges of employment for consumers who are ambivalent about working. MI can help consumers who are uncertain or not interested in working by increasing their internal motivation. Because the job search starts soon after consumers express interest in working, MI can help the consumer come to a decision to work. At the conclusion of this 1-day training, participants will be able to: understand the ‘Spirit’ of MI, learn, and practice the person-centered foundational skills using open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summarizing skills (OARS). Participants will also learn how to recognize, respond to, and strengthen ‘Change Talk’, which can then lead to a shift in the consumers’ ambivalence towards working. The entire day and practice will be focused on employment.

*Previous MI Training is recommended
