This three (3) day training offers an all-inclusive exploration into the fundamentals of ACT. We start off with a conversation about why a recovery-oriented approach is the foundation of our work. Next, we immerse ourselves in the who, why, what, and how of ACT, its history and key components. Then we get up close and personal with what it takes to support an individual in the community by reviewing treatment and rehabilitative interventions that develop from the following evidence-based practices: Permanent Supportive Housing, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Supported Employment, Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment, Person-Centered Planning, and Wellness Coaching. Tying it all together, we review the essentials of Person-Centered Planning and documentation.

This training will focus on the key elements of effective Job Development. To engage in effective Job Development, employment specialists must use the entire ACT team to ensure a good job match. First, using the Career profile, specialists will learn to engage the ITT to identify individual strengths and barriers to employment. Specialists will then learn how to use the entire team to identify a stream of potential employers that match the consumer's preferences. Through role play, participants will practice engaging and developing relationships with employers through planned, in-person contacts that lead to competitive employment. Additionally, specialists will strategize ways to address workplace adjustments for individual consumers.

In this training, participants will discover the importance of identifying an individual’s learning style and how different learning styles translate to teaching psychiatric rehabilitative skills. They will also learn the step-by-step processes of assessing both housing and psychiatric rehabilitation skill building needs and developing an individualized plan to support clients’ success in the community. This 3-day course will take place on April 9, 16, and 23. Wellness Coaching is designed to help people identify and pursue a change they would like to make in one dimension of wellness, with particular emphasis in the physical wellness domain. A Wellness Coach works collaboratively with the coachee (person wanting to make a change, or health improvement) to help him/her through a systematic process. The coach brings expertise in the steps of wellness coaching, skill in allying with and communicating with the coachee. The coachee brings knowledge and experience of his/her own strengths and the desire to change. During this brief 6-8 week intervention, coachees build the habits, routines, and self-accountability needed to sustain wellness, with the overall goal of decreasing disparities in health and wellness between those who have mental health diagnoses and those who do not.
