NAMI of Southwestern Pennsylvania is the local chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness, a grassroots organization dedicated to helping families and individuals affected by mental illness achieve lives of quality and respect through support, education and advocacy activities that promote recovery. NAMI offers support groups and education for people with mental illness, their family members, and their caregivers.
The Allegheny County Coalition for Recovery consists of consumers, family members and providers and aims to increase awareness of behavioral health recovery and to promote the use of recovery principles and practices in behavioral health services in Allegheny County.
Peer Support and Advocacy Network (PSAN)’s goal is to assist consumers to empower themselves through voluntary, strengths-based, choice-driven programming, advocacy, information and referral, access to community resources, and informal activities.
The Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers’ Association is a statewide membership organization representing people who have recovered or are recovering from mental illness. Their purpose is to promote and support recovery through advocacy and education to eliminate stigma and discrimination.
The Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania (DRN) is a statewide, non–profit corporation designated as the federally–mandated organization to advance and protect the civil rights of adults and children with disabilities. DRN works with people with disabilities and their families to ensure their rights to live in their communities with the services they need, to receive a full and inclusive education, to live free of discrimination, abuse and neglect, and to have control and self–determination over their services.
The Pennsylvania Health Law Project is a nationally recognized expert and consultant on access to health care for low-income consumers, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. For more than two decades, PHLP has engaged in direct advocacy on behalf of individual consumers while working on the kinds of health policy changes that promise the most to the Pennsylvanians in greatest need.
Mental Health America is the nation’s leading advocacy organization dedicated to helping all people live mentally healthier lives by working to inform, advocate and enable access to quality behavioral health services for all Americans.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) advocates at all levels to ensure that all persons affected by mental illness receive the services that they need and deserve, in a timely fashion. In addition to advocacy, they offer support for families and a variety of training and educational opportunities.
